Missouri gangs are taking over prisons in the MDOC due to there being a shortage of Correctional Officers. Gary Gross, who works for the state, said
“The department’s own numbers show they’re 800 some officers down.”
However, due to a lack of funding and the fact that Missouri C.O.’s are being underpaid, this problem is more than likely to continue to grow. Traditionally rival gangs like the White Supremacists, Bloods, and the Crips are now joining forces to take advantage of the lucrative drug trade going on within the facilities across the state. Something that was not mentioned by the news was that there have been hundreds of cases across the nation in which the Correctional Officers were the ones who actually helped them inmates to get the drugs and contraband into the facilities in the first place–for a cut of the profits. Regardless of who did what, these problems eventually spill out onto the streets–leading to the loss of more life prematurely and more families mourning. Imagine the impact these gangs would have if they came together to do something positive for God and humanity?
