In a year of great television,Underground  is one of the standout picks of 2016.The WGN breakout series about slaves and the Underground Railroad, starring Jurnee Smollet-Bell, was a ratings and critical success from the first episode. Fans have eagerly awaited the second season since the action-packed finale aired in late spring. Now it appears the wait is over, as the first look at season two has arrived.

If you have yet to watch Underground, you have until the beginning of March 2017 to get it together. That is when season two premieres, promising more action, drama and big name guest stars, including John Legend as Frederick Douglass. Industry insider Shadow and Act has all the up-to-date details surrounding Underground’s second season.

Season 2 of WGN’s critically-acclaimed drama “Underground” will debut on Wednesday, March 8 at 10 p.m. ET, the network announced today.

The season will introduce legendary abolitionist Harriet Tubman, who will be played by Aisha Hinds in a recurring role. Executive producer John Legend will also be appearing this season, portraying famed reformer Frederick Douglass.

Season 2 will focus on the Macon 7 and their continued struggle for freedom within an America on the cusp of a civil war, picking up in the aftermath of their epic escape attempt. The season will be comprised of 10 hour-long episodes.
