President Obama continues to keep making history and bettering the lives of women. On Friday he signed the Survivors Bill of Rights Act into law after being passed by Congress on Wednesday.

According to Mother Jones, the measure focuses on collecting and preserving rape kits, the forensic evidence collected in a medical examination after a suspected sexual assault. It will also stop the police from charging survivors for paying for their own rape kits to be processed—even if they choose not to press charges against their attacker. In addition, survivors will also have better access to counselors, will be given tracking numbers for their kits and the kits must be preserved over the years.

The bill was partly drafted by 24-year-old Amanda Nguyen, a rape survivor who currently is a White House deputy liaison at the State Department.

One hopes that this law will help alleviate the thousands of rape kits that go untested each year. In 2014 more than 100,000 kits have been sitting in police warehouses going untested.

The Republican governor of Florida will not extend voter registration deadline in his state despite the fact that Hurricane Matthew hit the state days before the Tuesday deadline, CNN reported. On Thursday, Gov Rick Scott, who also runs a Super PAC for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, told the press that his state’s residents “have had time to register.”

Given that Florida is a key battle state, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her camp asked Florida officials to extend the state’s Tuesday voter registration deadline.

The voter registration deadline in Florida is October 11, and our hope would be that a little bit more time will be given for people who were expecting to be able to get registered before the election,” said Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook.

We certainly expect that the governor and local officials will make that possible.”

Sadly, that didn’t happen.

Actor Robert De Niro is not one to hold back— a fact that can be seen in cut footage from a recent PSA encouraging those to vote during this year’s presidential election.

A punk,” “a dog,” “a bozo,” “a pig,” “a con,” “a mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” “a bulls–t artist” and “an embarrassment to this country,” De Niro said.

He’s an idiot. Colin Powell said it best: He’s a national disaster. He talks how he’d like to punch people in the face? … Well, I’d like to punch him in the face.”

De Niro continued, “He talks [about] how he wants to punch people in the face. Well, I’d like to punch him in the face. This is somebody that we want for president? I don’t think so. What I care about is the direction of this country, and what I’m very, very worried about is that it might go in the wrong direction with someone like Donald Trump. If you care about your future, vote for it.”

Welp!
