Halls Ferry Elementary School has canceled school Tuesday (May 10) due to an evening fire.

The St. Louis American reports, the school’s art department caught fire Monday night when a kiln overheated. Fortunately, the fire was contained in the art closet which is designed as concrete room to prevent fires from spreading; however, smoke and ashes spread through other parts of the school.

So in the best interest of the students and faculty, the district has suspended classes for the day as the District works with cleaning and restoration specialists to clean and repair the damage.
