UPDATE: In the case of 31-year-old drummer Corey Jonesthe plainclothes officer, Nouman Raja shot at him six times. Three bullets hit Corey including one in his aorta.

Jones had a gun in his possession as well as a concealed carry permit. However the family’s attorney, Benjamin Crump said his gun was never fired nor was it in Corey’s hand as he died nearly 100 feet from the car.

Crump, did however offer a scenario in which may have warranted Corey using his weapon in self defense.

“He doesn’t know if he’s about to be mugged, he’s about to be robbed, he’s about to be killed. Imagine yourselves on the side of the road at 3 in the morning, abandoned, the sense of concern you would have (while) waiting for a tow truck and an unmarked van rolls up” said Crump.

Several hundred people including Corey’s family, friends and the neighboring community of West Palm Beach, Florida gathered at a town hall meeting at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church to address their concerns with Corey’s untimely death.

Sybrina Fulton, mother of slain teen, Trayvon Martin was also in attendance to empower the Jones family. “Never give up, regardless of what they tell you, never give up” she said.

The town hall followed an announcement by the Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw that the FBI will also assist with the investigation.

“In an effort to provide the family of Corey Jones and the community with a thorough and accurate investigation, I have requested the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, to join in the investigation and they have agreed to do so. I welcome their expertise and believe that this will ensure the highest level of scrutiny and impartiality” Bradshaw said in a statement.

Stay tuned for the latest developments in the case.
