Arenas told his coach Flip Saunders that his knee was bothering him before a game against the Atlanta Hawks.  But the injury was a ruse by Arenas, who served a 50 game suspension last season because of a felony conviction for bringing guns into the locker room, to get his teammate Nick Young a starting spot.

“I told [Young] I’d sacrifice playing tonight so he can get some time in because I know he’s kind of frustrated he’s not getting a chance to crack the [small forward] position, especially since we’re going three guards,” said a smiling Arenas. “So I told him I’ll go and fake an injury or say something’s wrong with me so you can start.”

Young played alongside rookie sensation John Wall and scored a team high 24 points in 31 minutes of play. In a previous interview Arenas admitted that he was only in Washington to show John Wall the ropes and “move on.”

There are still 82 regular season games to play and as the hamstring injury suffered by Dwyane Wade in the preseason opener shows that anything can happen (right, Carlos Boozer?). While Wade will make a full recovery before Miami opens the NBA season on October 26th against Shaq and the most recent big 3 in Boston, below are 5 reasons the Heat will not hoist the gold basketball at the end of the 2010-2011 season.

5 – Erik Spoelstra is coach

Let’s be honest here. Pat Riley (and all the slick hair, championship pedigree, and showtime glory that comes with him) is the reason LeBron James took his talents to South Beach. The last time the Heat won the title in 2006, Pat Riley was on the sidelines and a still serviceable Shaquille O’Neal (another Riley signing) was in the pivot. If you remember once Shaq signed in 2004, Riley “Deebo’ed” the coaching reins from another assistant turned coach Stan Van Gundy. Erik Spoelstra took over the job once Shaq rolled out of town and the team became a joke again. Even though everyone is saying the right things in defense of the current head coach, you better believe if this super team with the plethora of nicknames gets off to a slow start (read: three game losing streak) expect to see Riles back on the sidelines in a hurry.

4 – Chemistry

Although it is a given that whenever players are put together for the first time there will be an adjustment period, these aren’t just any players. The “New Big Three” of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are not only three of the top ten players in the league they were also, in Bosh and James’ case, the superstar of their old teams. These three are used to having the ball in their hands. They will have to figure out who will take the last shot and who will step up in times of adversity, etc. Add to that the twelve other players they threw the roster together with and it may take some time to get the ball rolling.

3 – Pressure

The fallout from LeBron’s “Decision” has been swift. His good guy image took a significant hit for the way he left Cleveland and teaming up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh means anything less than an appearance in the NBA Finals would be a disappointment. With former NBA coach and ESPN/ABC analyst Jeff Van Gundy stating on record that this team will surpass the 72 win season of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, to say expectations are high would be an understatement.

2 – The Other NBA Teams

Forget about the other teams that were left at the altar by LeBron James (Knicks, Nets, Bulls, Clippers, and Cavaliers) Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard has already publicly disparaged the “other” Florida NBA team in the press as overhyped. With the Miami Heat already being given the NBA title by many before the season starts, the other 385 NBA players are not happy with the notion that they are suiting up to lose. Therefore expect every team that plays the Heat this season to play their best game in hopes of derailing the South Beach juggernaut. And that is just the regular season. The playoffs are another animal entirely.

1 – Kobe

His team won the NBA championship last season and his focus is on a repeat three peat, a feat that would equal his idol Michael Jordan. Expecting a showdown with LeBron’s Cavs the last two seasons, Kobe will not just hand the title over to the Heat without a fight. Like Jordan, Kobe thrives off challenges and all the hype surrounding “Miami Thrice” will only fuel his fire.

Old Spice’s marketing department is a zoo. At least that’s the impression you get watching these ads with Ray Lewis, linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens. First he’s riding a giant bird and then he’s getting chased down the field by a bear not named Urlacher.

Before LeBron was the most hated player in the Universe (or in Cleveland), Kobe had the spot. And both of their puppets helped Nike air some funny spots on TV.

Charles Barkley is not funny when tries to be, but when he teamed up with Dwyane Wade for these T-Mobile  Fave 5 ads, the hilarity ensued.

Mean Joe Green in this classic and super corny Coca Cola commercial has been remade so many times that it had to make the list.

Here’s Tiger Woods’ situation before the commercial: He smashes his car after smashing some women, media backlash follows and he loses millions in endorsements. What should we do next? Nike came up with the brilliant idea of exploiting Tiger Woods’ dead dad. “Did you learn anything?”

“Become The Greatest.” That is the tagline for the newest incarnation of the NBA2K series. Surpassing NBA Live (now Elite) as the best selling basketball game for the past few years, NBA2K11 looks to continue their winning streak by securing the co-sign of arguably the greatest to ever lace up the hightops: Michael Jordan.

Not only is this the first time in recent memory a former player has graced the cover of an NBA licensed video game, but the first time since the old Bulls vs. Blazers (for Sega Genesis!) game in the early 90′s that Michael Jordan has appeared in a game licensed by the NBA.

NBA2K11 has all the makings of being a classic. Basketball games in the past have boasted about allowing full control of player movements, but NBA2K11 delivers on the promise with a full tutorial on which direction to move the controller to perform moves such as behind the back dribble, step back moves, and crossover to drive combos. Gone are the days of wiggling the controller and hoping something happens.

NBA2K11 has also improved minor details such as pre-game introductions and the halftime report which now includes a full recap of other games in progress. The in-game animations have been brought to a new level as well. One example of this is when #1 overall draft pick and Washington Wizards rookie John Wall makes a good play, he celebrates by doing his famous dance (look it up on YouTube).

Jordan isn’t on the cover of the game for his looks. He is an integral part of the game play with various features including ”The Jordan Challenge” where the user can play in ten classic Jordan games including “The Flu Game” against the Utah Jazz from 1997 and the “Shoulder Shrug” game against the Portland Trailblazers among others. There is also a feature where the user can become Michael Jordan and re-create his career thus the aforementioned tagline.

Fans who pine for the glory days of the NBA will be happy to know that teams such as Dominique Wilkins-led Atlanta Hawks (look for current Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers on the team as well), Patrick Ewing’s Knicks and the Isiah Thomas-led Bad Boys of Detroit are here as well to try to knock a young Michael Jordan (there are animations of Jordan with hair) off his throne all over again.

With the 2010-2011 NBA season one of the most anticipated in recent memory, NBA2K11 is the perfect way to play along with your favorite team or stroll down memory lane.

During an ESPN interview with Rachel Nichols, Dwyane Wade came to the defense of his new teammate LeBron James when asked about all the criticism James was receiving for leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat. Barkley has been outspoken in stating LeBron should have stayed in Cleveland and not take the easy way out by joining Wade’s team.

Wade told Nichols that Barkley needed to “look in the mirror” noting that Sir Charles left the Pheonix Suns to join “Scottie Pippen, Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler in Houston. Actually, Clyde Drexler retired after winning the championship with Olajuwon in 1995 and Scottie Pippen joined Houston during the ’98-’99 season two years after Barkley arrived, but we get it…sort of.

Barkley, the MVP of the league in 1993, also led the Suns to Game 6 of the 1993 NBA Finals, a game and series they could have won against Michael Jordan’s Bulls if Dan Majerle wasn’t throwing up three pointers from 30 feet out opening the door for John Paxson’s series clinching three point shot.

Wade also went on to say that all the great teams in the history of the league had more than one superstar citing Michael Jordan’s Bulls, Magic Johnson’s Lakers and Larry Bird’s Celtics teams. The difference between those teams and this current assembly in Miami is that those teams were built through the draft. Scottie Pippen was drafted by the former Seattle Supersonics and traded to Chicago in 1987 before he played an NBA game. Kareem Abdul Jabbar was already on the the Los Angeles Lakers when they drafted Earvin “Magic” Johnson in 1979 and James Worthy in 1982. Larry Bird and Kevin McHale were drafted by the Boston Celtics a year apart in ’79 and ’80 respectively. Robert Parish was also traded to Boston in 1980. None of the aforementioned players established themselves as the one of the top players in the league and then left the team that drafted them to play with another superstar.

Wade would have made his point if he would have referenced the current “Big 3” in Boston of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. Garnett and Allen were superstars on other teams who decided to come together with Pierce to win the championship that eluded them to that point. They succeeded in 2008. Wade has already proven he could lead a team to a title when he took over the 2006 NBA Finals from the second half of Game 3 against the Dallas Mavericks. He had Shaquille O’Neal, but it was all Wade in that series.

Wade has to understand that leadership is what these veterans expected from LeBron James. For him to not only leave Cleveland but go to a team that has an established superstar to win a ring looks like an easy out and not someone worthy of claiming to be the best.

Although it is admirable that Wade is coming to the defense of his new teammate, he needs to get his facts straight. LeBron, a student of the game had to know Wade had his time tables messed up when talking about who Barkley went to play with in Houston. The irony in all of this, I believe Wade would not have done what LeBron did and he will never have to face this sort of backlash.

The drama for Sunday’s showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins rivaled most reality TV favorites on the air today. After serving 19 months in prison for a dogfighting conviction the Eagles took a chance on signing Michael Vick as the third string quarterback behind McNabb and Kevin Kolb. But at the end of the season McNabb was unceremoniously traded to division rival Washington moving Vick to Number 2 on the depth chart.

But after suffering a head injury in the opening game Kevin Kolb was benched in favor of Michael Vick who performed at an exceptional level as the starter for two and a half games.

So going into this Sunday’s contest you had one vet going against the team that tossed him aside, led by another quarterback who had been given a second chance.

McNabb entered his old stadium to a standing ovation from the Philadelphia faithful, but that would be the last time the crowd would cheer for the day.  McNabb  completed 8 of 19 passes for 125 yards and one touch down. Not a stellar effort but enough to get the 17-12 win. Vick, on the other hand left the game early in the first quarter with a rib injury after being sandwiched by two Redskins defenders. Kevin Colb was unable to rally his troops to victory in his return to the starting QB slot throwing for 201 yards, one touch down and an interception.

McNabb was fairly humble in a post game speech to his teammates but allowed himself one dig at his old team: “Everybody makes mistakes in their lifetime but they made one last year!”

The two teams face each other on more time on November 15th.
