Ex-Gary, Indiana Mayor Gives Nat Turner’s Remains To Family

The body of Nat Turner, whose story was returned to the nation’s conscience in Nate Parker‘s The Birth of a Nation, is finally in the hands of his descendants. Until now, little was known about what happened to his body after he was captured in 1831 for leading one of the bloodiest slave rebellions in U.S. history. Last week, Richard Gordon Hatcher, who served as the mayor of Gary, Indiana from 1968 to 1987, returned his skull to family members. “The chain of transmission includes Franklin and Cora Breckinridge, civil rights activists who donated the skull to Hatcher in 2002. They received it from Bob Franklin of Elkhart, Indiana, who says the skull was passed down in his family for three generations.Read more.

Leaked Clinton Speeches Show Cozy Relationship With Wall Street

Republican nominee Donald Trump was not the only one feeling the heat at Sunday night’s second presidential debate in St. Louis, Missouri.
