The mother of a 16-year-old girl accused of fatally shooting Endia Martin, 14, identified Vandetta Redwood to police as the woman who gave her daughter the murder weapon, according to a filing entered into federal court on Tuesday via the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Sun-Times writes that Redwood, a relative, gave the girl a loaded .38 caliber revolver, telling her to “shoot the b—.” The accused 16-year-old is standing trial in juvenile court.

Investigators say the exchange happened before Martin was killed on April 28, 2014 after a social media argument flared into a heated personal exchange, leaving Martin dead and another unidentified girl shot.

Reports the site:

The teenager’s uncle and Redwood’s cousin, Donnell Flora, is serving a 100-year sentence for supplying the gun in the girls’ fight, which started on social media. But it was Redwood who gave the minor the gun before Endia and another girl were shot, prosecutors said.

The filing revealed that Redwood was identified by the young girl’s mother on the night of her daughter’s police interrogation “among a group of people who had gathered outside the police station,” reports the Sun-Times. Flora and Redwood were arrested after.

During Redwood’s interrogation, she denied any involvement to the police. After they left the room, she starting talking to herself, saying:

“I wasn’t there. . . . I’m not goin’ down, I got a whole motherf—–’ daughter to take care of. . . . I ain’t goin’ down for nobody. . . . I don’t want to be in jail. I am not going to no motherf—— jail.”

Redwood escaped mob action and obstruction of justice charges, after a Cook County Judge said shaky cell phone evidence of the crime scene failed to provide “minimal burden” that there was cause to prosecute Redwood.

In February, Redwood was indicted on federal charges of supplying the handgun used in the shooting.
