ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Police are saying it all started as a routine traffic stop in North St. Louis but it quickly turned into what’s being called a ‘firefight’ between officers and suspect. It all ended at Belt and Wells outside the Friendly Village Apartments. That’s where officers shot and killed a suspect.

It started about 10:30 p.m. Thursday  when investigators say officers tried to stop a car that was going the wrong way down a one-way street near Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd.  Authorities say  the car crashed and the suspect got out and started running.

Police chased him and that’s when investigators say the suspect started shooting at police.  Officers fired back and hit the suspect, killing him. No officers were hurt in the confrontation.
